Is December 2012 the end of the world?

Many predictions from all over the world tend to agree on one thing: The world should change as soon as possible. This 2012 prophecy has become the talk of the world now that it is almost here, a mere three years away. Some call it "Doomsday," the "Apocalypse," while others prefer to believe in an era of change, of turning a new leaf.

The Mayan Calendar says the end of time will happen at exactly 11:11 GMT Dec. 21, 2012. That is the boldest interpretation so far in our times based on predictions of ancient men from an ancient civilization.

One cable channel has shown Nostradamus 2012, the prophet’s prediction about the end of our world and what could possibly happen when the time comes. Because of the show, many got frightened and panicky, asking questions of anyone who could respond with clarity and sensibility.

This topic is making a buzz on the Internet, too, and has generated articles, Web sites, television programs and even movies. They discuss all sources of information, from the ancients to current seers and prophets, ancient civilizations, the Bible, varied cultures, beliefs and religions, as well the scientific community.

Why is Dec. 21, 2012

an important date?

The Mayan prediction is the prime reference for the date. The Mayans are people that lived in Central America. Apart from Aztec, the Mayan civilization represents an important period in history. Mayans studied the cycles of the universe and believed that an accurate observation of the stars and planets would allow them to predict the future. The most prominent prediction made by them is what concerns us today. They believed that an important event would happen in 2012, exactly on Dec. 21st.
This prediction would have no importance if it wasn’t confirmed by science, that on Dec. 21, 2012, planet Earth and the Sun will be exactly aligned with the center of the galaxy, Milky Way. Although the scientists are not entirely sure, they think this could cause magnetic turbulences, like volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and such. From that point of view, a popular seer from the 16th century also predicted the same event. He was Nostradamus.

Who is Nostradamus?

Michel Nostradamus was a French physician and astrologer. His modern followers see him as a prophet and his prophecies are magical for most believers. Nostradamus wrote four-line verses, called quatrains, in groups of 100 centuries. There were originally written in French and have been translated into different languages. There are, of course, many skeptics about him being a prophet and a seer.

regarding the 2012 event:

"In 2012, a rare and possibly Earth-shattering astrological alignment is due to occur that will precipitate a cataclysmic event. Whatever is in store — a massive cosmic collision, a global environmental disaster, an Armageddon-like religious showdown, or a more subtle transformation — there have been multiple predictions from different times and cultures that Dec. 21, 2012 will mark a major shift in the history of our planet."

Prophesied events are not always inevitable nor are they fixed, but most likely they come to reality; in other words, they are possibilities, although the time is not always exact. I believe the human free will can change any event, change the timing or events completely. Some would be harder to change because a "collective mind" is required. There are predictions in which time frames are indicated, though not in terms of exact dates. Some prophets do indicate actual timing though, but whatever the dates are, they become more plausible when signs are indicated for a particular event, manifested thereafter when the event is about to come.

Will a comet head toward the Earth, and will it trigger the so-called Apocalypse 2012 AD, the Mayan’s date for the end of the Earth?

Prophecies of Nostradamus

To summarize Nostradamus’ prophecies regarding the 2012 cataclysm (the "quatrains" are indicated for reference):

• "During the appearance of The Bearded Star, the three great princes will be made enemies. The shaky peace on earth will be struck by fire from the skies. Po, the winding — Tiber, a serpent placed on the shore." — C2 Q4

•"Mabus will soon die, then will come a horrible slaughter of people and animals
At once vengeance revealed coming from a hundred hands. Thirst and Famine when The Comet shall pass." — C2 Q72

•"After a great misery for mankind, an ever greater one approaches. The great cycle of the centuries renewed, it will rain blood, milk, famine, war, disease. In the sky will be seen a great fire dragging a trail of sparks." — C2 Q46

•"In the Year 1999 and seven months The Great, King of Terror shall come from the sky. He will bring to life the King of the Mongols. Before and after, Mars reigns happily." — C10 Q72.

•"He (Comet) shall bring to life the King of the Mongols." — Part 3 of Qc10Q72

•"There will appear toward the seven stars of Ursa Minor and Polaris not far from Cancer, the Bearded Star Susa, Siena, Boeoti. Great Rome will die, the night having vanished." — C6 Q6.

•"The Great Star will blaze for seven days. The Cloud will cause two Suns to appear. The Huge Dog will howl at night when the great pontiff will change lands." — C2 Q41

•"The great mountain, one mile in circumference, after peace, war, famine flooding... It will spread far, drowning antiquities and their mighty foundations."

The explanation

Scholars believed that the "Great, King of Terror from the sky" was the "Doomsday" comet also called the Nibiru Comet Planet. This is because Nostradamus had several predictions of a comet that would impact or near-pass Earth and trigger global destruction. Accordingly, it was cleared that Nostradamus never said the Comet would pass Earth in the year 1999 and seven months. He saw the comet near-passing earth after 1999. The great "cycle of the centuries renewed" was the year 2000 AD, the New Millennium, and said it would cause great destruction that would trigger World War III (WWIII).

In astronomy, the planet Mars is closer to Earth today than it has been in the last 60,000 years and in astrology, Mars is the ancient god and planet that influences war. Since July 1999, "Mars reigns happily" as stated because war has been exploding in many parts of the world.

It is predicted that the resulting destruction and famine that will be caused by the Comet Planet and will cause China (King of Mongols) to go to war once an asteroid crashes into the ocean. Nostradamus sees the comet coming toward Earth from Cancer, south, passing through the Big Dipper to the North Star, and would be visible to earth for seven days, bringing destruction to Britain (Great Dog), Rome and the Vatican (Pontiff).

In a disastrous scenario, the Earth will launch specially equipped, nuclear weapons that should shatter the comet or asteroid on its way to Earth. Unfortunately, it will spew burning fragments on Earth and one-third of our planet will be lit on fire.

One large fragment will then crash into the sea and it will be catastrophic to Earth. Olympus Festulan is said to be Mt. Olympus, and because of its height of 10,000 feet, the resulting scenario is a massive tidal wave.

Before hitting Mt. Olympus, asteroids will hit the Aegean Sea, the island of Negrepont now called Evvoia, and the impact would equal in megatons of nuclear missile. These disasters will trigger mass plague and famine leading to WWIII, China (Mongols) leading the war.

This burning star, Wormwood, hits the waters of America, the North East Coast. New York City sits at 45 degrees latitude. Normans represents France, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato). The military would contact Nato for "verification" if this object is a nuclear missile or a comet. If Wormwood is a nuclear missile, the country would launch a nuclear response. There you go.

Nostradamus sets a time frame around 2012 AD. The Book of Revelations (Chapter 8) also speaks of a comet that would bring great destruction upon the world and trigger the third World War.

Comment and conclusion

I personally believe that the current modern civilization will reach its end just like the other great civilizations of the past. Proofs from artifacts, mementos and many creations depict the grandeur and magnificence of their time, and yet these great ancient civilizations reached that level of destruction and annihilation, to be replaced by new generations and new civilizations.

Our generation will not be any different from the past ones. Ours will reach its final frontier, too, our end, the stoppage of life forms on earth. Many would ask if 2012 is that end year, but like before, many men have come out with dates, but never the end did come.

My conclusion is this: The end will indeed come to many and those who will survive will have such a hard time they would prefer to be dead, a better option in a situation that is almost unbearable. Still, some will survive.

But the real question is this, "When will it happen?" If you are in your 40s, then for sure you will see and experience the destruction of earthly life. The year 2012 will give you a 75 percent chance of it happening in your lifetime and a 25 percent of prayer doing something, not only for yourself but for the others as well.
