It’s Halloween once again and for today’s article, we will feature three of the world’s most famous haunted houses and the stories behind it.

THE WINCHESTER MYSTERY HOUSE

The Winchester Mystery house located in San Jose, California was once the house of gun magnate William Wirt Winchester and his wife Sarah Winchester. This Victorian mansion is most famous for its beautiful yet bizarre design and the history behind it. Legend has it that with the death of her husband in 1881 and daughter in 1866, Sarah Winchester consulted a medium to seek solace. According to the medium, there is a curse upon the Winchester family because the Winchester rifles have taken so many lives and that their spirits are now seeking vengeance. And the only way to counter this is for Sarah to build a house and never cease building it otherwise the spirits will get her. After that, she proceeded with the nonstop construction of a maze-like house full of twists, turns, dead ends, secret passageways and rooms that lead to nowhere in order to confuse the spirits.

The mansion was built continuously for 38 years until Sarah’s death in 1922. The estimated number of rooms totalled around 500 but due to the continuous dismantling and remodelling, only 160 rooms remain. Apart from that, the house also has 40 bedrooms, 2 ballrooms, 47 fireplaces, 17 chimneys, 10,000 window panes, 2 basements and 3 elevators. There are also stairs that lead to the ceiling, doors that open onto walls, a staircase with each step only two inches high, and other bizarre layouts. Mrs. Winchester also has a special fondness with the number 13 which can be found throughout the house such as windows with 13 panes, 13 bathrooms, 13 steps on many of the stairways, 13 ceiling panels, etc.

There are a lot of mysteries surrounding this house and a lot of ghost stories also such as hearing voices in empty rooms, hearing footsteps, capturing pictures of orbs, ghostly figures and many more. It is said that the ghost of Sarah Winchester can still be seen in the house.

Whether the story behind the house is true, or that Mrs. Winchester just lost touch with reality due to the death of her loved ones, is anybody’s guess.

THE LALAURIE MANSION

In New Orleans, there stood a mansion known for its macabre tales called the LaLaurie Mansion. It was owned by Dr. Louis LaLaurie and his wife Madame Delphine LaLaurie. The couple is well-known in the social circles of New Orleans and for the extravagant parties they always throw. But stories on how Delphine LaLaurie tortured and killed her slaves are the most famous of all.

Rumors on how the Madame treated her servants started when one day, several neighbours allegedly saw her brutally whipping her young slave girl who, in her desire to escape the Madame, jumped to her death from the roof of the house. The stories of maltreatment intensified when one day, a fire broke out in the mansion’s kitchen and when the firemen arrived at the scene, they discovered two of the slaves chained to the stove. It seems that the fire was started by the slaves in order to attract attention and seek help. According to folklore, apart from the two slaves discovered in the kitchen, the firemen also discovered the mansion to be a horror house. There were dozens of slaves chained to the wall, caged, and some were even the victim of mutilations and horrible experiments carried out by Madame LaLaurie.

The population was outraged upon hearing the story and demanded for justice. But Madame Delphine and her husband fled from the scene and were never caught.

After which, the mansion has changed hands several times. It has been a saloon, a school, a furniture store, and an apartment. Since then, many stories were reported from hearing the agonized screams, seeing the young slave who fell from the roof and other incidents where they encounter the ghosts of the slaves.

According to contemporary sources, there were records on the maltreatment of the LaLaurie slaves but has no confirmation as to the severe mutilations and experimentations conducted on the slaves. Some also claims that Madame LaLaurie was the victim of yellow journalism carried out by those who were jealous of her wealthy and exclusive lifestyle.

THE BELL WITCH’S CAVE

In the early 1800’s, the Bell family was plagued with mysterious disturbances and haunting in their cabin. According to most accounts, the family lived peacefully for thirteen years until one night, their 12 yr. old daughter Elizabeth “Betsy” Bell complained of invisible rats gnawing at her bed post. Other members of the family also experienced their bed covers being pulled off them at night. Sounds similar to chains being dragged, stones being dropped, choking sounds, etc. were also heard. Some other times, the family would wake up with sore scalps from the pulling of their hair or sore cheeks from being slapped by someone invisible. The family kept these experiences to themselves for a while in order to avoid being laughed at by others. But then came a point when the need to tell someone became stronger.

John Bell, the father, confided his problems to his friend and neighbour who then agreed to sleep at the cabin. He watched by Betsy’s bedside that night and witnessed the girl being struck several times on the cheeks and her hair being pulled from someone invisible. Since then, he met with the other neighbours and told them of the Bell family’s ordeal and decided to help them. But this move only enraged the spirit and terrorized Betsy all the more.

For several more years, the family’s ordeal became more prominent and several other people has experienced or witnessed it. It also seemed that the focus of the haunting were mainly on John and Betsy.

Many has tried to communicate with the spirit and after several attempts, the spirit started talking. It has manifested its dislike of John Bell and often swore to keep after him until the end of his days. The spirit has also claimed to be the spirit of a deceased woman well-known in their neighbourhood for being an eccentric recluse thus earning her the appellation of “witch”.

The notorious haunting continued on for several more years which according to tales, resulted to the breaking of Betsy’s engagement to her fiancé and the death of John Bell. After the death of the father, the “witch” manifestations decreased steadily until one day, it said its goodbye to the family and a promise to return to one of his descendants after 107 years.

The descendants of the Bell family have not experienced the same ordeal as their ancestors and began to wonder if the story of the mysterious witch is true or that their ancestors were just deeply troubled.

ASTRAL TRAVEL

Man, being multi-dimensional, can do astral projection or astral travel, where we leave our body to consummate the desire that is hard to accomplish in the physical plane.

Man is made of several bodies. In universal teaching, it is believed that man is made of seven sheaths of bodies -- the physical body, mental structure, the causal, etheric, emotional, and the spiritual being. Whether we are a believer or not, we have experienced the presence of these bodies once or more often than others.

During astral travel, one may experience dreaming of falling and upon sensing it, they physically kick their feet on air to anticipate the fall. But the truth is, they are just experiencing the return of their astral body to its physical shell.

The benefit of astral travel is that they can solve and find solution to their many unresolved mysteries in life. Problems can be solved with solutions offered in the astral plane. Our desires that are hard to fulfil in the physical or material plane can be consummated in the astral plane like that of astral sex with a partner that is impossible to be with in the physical plane.

MYTHS:

1. They said that it is against religion, especially Christian belief. But how can it be against any religious sect when it happens naturally during sleep like an ordinary dream.
2. You can harm yourself as well as others during astral travel. How can you harm another when you don’t have a physical body during astral travel? Harm only exists on the physical state.
3. Astral travel is dangerous for it can make someone lost for eternity when they get lost in the astral plane.
4. Astral sex can make someone lose her dignity like virginity or even worse, get pregnant by any entity present in the astral plane.

FACTS:

1. Anything natural is a God given gift, ability, and capability. And if it do happen to every body even without exerting any effort, then it is not bad or a sin at all. Man creates imperfect laws and theories whereas God created nature in its perfection to survive on its own, adjust to its need, and create situations in order to fulfil their reason for existence.
2. The sensation of harm is only felt in the physical realm and with this reality, then astral bodies cannot be harmed nor can do any harm.
3. Astral bodies are attached by a silver “umbilical type” cord to the physical body that stretches anywhere. It is boundless and limitless to whatever places your astral self desires. It will never be broken nor get entangled. So going back is as easy as getting out of the body.
4. Astral sex has no effect on the physical body. The only thing that is consummated during astral sex is the desire of having it done mutually with the desired person. And it is always consummated only when both have the desire in the physical plane but have no chance of doing it in that plane for whatever reason. So astral rape is a myth, for nobody can force himself to anybody without the permission of the other party.
   

Techniques on How To Astral Travel:

1. Look for a safe and quiet place, most probably your own bedroom.
2. Adjust lighting to make it not too bright.
3. Lie flat on your bed or sit down but be sure that your head is at rest.
4. Regulate your breathing by inhaling and exhaling deeply at first until you feel comfortable.
5. Focus your eyes to a specific object or a wall.
6. Visualize your desire like a person, place or even a situation you want to happen.
7. One must achieve the feeling of being asleep.
8. If you feel that you are seeing yourself, then one is already leaving the physical body.
9. Fear nothing because astral travel is a journey of one’s self to his/her innermost desires.
10. If the mind senses fear, the sensation of falling down from a high ground will be felt.
11. Going back immediately after a failed astral travel will not be successful.
12. Try and practice again later or the following day. The more practice, the better rate of success.

NOTE:

1. Karma is still enforced in the astral plane. Good or bad desire will reap same karma.
2. Respect free will of all entity at all times so as not to violate the ethical rule of the universe.
3. Balance astral body and physical body. Life must be balanced at all times.
4. Changing the past through astral travel is not possible.
5. Altering the future through astral travel has a minimal effect.
6. Fulfilling the present desire is the most successful reason for astral travel.
7. Understanding the events and reason on astral plane will bring answer to current problems and life failure.

Life has many mysteries. Astral travel, astral projection, and astral plane are just several of these universal mysteries. Those who don’t believe, has never tried, or never been successful in this travel will go against it. Only those who have been successful and have fulfilled life through the help of astral travel can be considered an authority in this. Success lays in balancing life through the physical, astral, and other sheaths – it also makes one a better person on earth, if not perfect.

ASTROLOGICAL SIGNS AND ELEMENTS PART 2

Combining the stars and the elements of Earth will give us a clue on the general characteristics of a person and it can be their guide in pursuing their desires and plans in the future.

In the first part of this column (Vibes and Visions, Sept. 20, 2010), we talked about the two elements, fire and water, and the six astrological signs they support: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.


For this second and last part, we’ll tackle the elements of earth and air and the six other astrological signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. Combining the element and astrological sign gives us a deeper understanding of what we feel, who we are and what we may do in the future.

EARTH SIGN
This is the most stable sign of all — solid and dependable. People under the earth sign do not change, which is why they are considered “real people.” Why start something new when what is already there can be developed and into something better? This is their main belief and, for them, dwelling on what is new and unknown is almost a taboo. They are the most patient characters on Earth. They will wait for others to change, but their waiting attitude will never cease. The negative characteristics of earth people are they are the most materialistic and possessive of all astrological elements on Earth. Their happiness depends on what they have and not on what they do not have.

TAURUS - Earth Sign April 21-May 21
Taurus is the most stable and strongest among all signs. They are known for their stubborn nature and their unwillingness to change, whether for good or for better. They are also sensual people and love happiness most of the time. They believe in a harmonious relationships and stay as lifetime partner to their chosen love. They have a firm foundation of belief that can be dependable in the nurturing and developing of those around them.

VIRGO - Earth Sign August 22 - September 23 Virgo is the sign that lives on their own. They create a cordoned atmosphere in their life and surroundings. Homes of Virgo people have high walls so that these are not visible from the outside — they feel secure this way. They are also very analytical people, very helpful and dependable if they have proven you are worthy of their help.

CAPRICORN -Earth Sign December 23 - January 20
Capricorn people are the most mysterious and deep. Being the purest among the earth signs, they have a conservative mindset. They take interest in everything on Earth that possesses a powerful symbol and stature, from politics to sports to anything at all. They are also successful in their financial life. The chance of getting rich and prosperous in life is at hand for Capricorn people. If they start young, the chance of success is much bigger and better.

AIR SIGNS
Air sign people are the kind that lives with their mind. They can formulate their own theories, solve problems clearly and faster than anybody else, and they never dwell on things that will make them stagnant. Like air, they cannot be contained, they cannot be touched or seen, but felt. Their advanced thinking keeps them out of touch with reality so they seem eccentric to slow thinkers. The gift of intelligence has a backlash on their emotional depth. Air is the only element that connects all elements on Earth. So astrological signs under the air element are harmonious and compatible with almost everybody. Having one in your life means a colorful and adventure-filled living. You will never have a dull moment with air people.

GEMINI - Air Sign May 22 - June 21
Gemini people are the most flighty among air signs. Nobody can stop them in their flight of dreams, desires, or plans. Slowing them down will not last for they do not know what to do with a slow-paced lifestyle. This sign of duality and the element of air make a combination of a never-ending search for their desire and belief. Again, you can glide with them in your life, but for sure, the search for completion, perfection of happiness and fulfillment will make that flight change any moment. Gemini-air is the sign of communication; they want to know everybody and everything. Converse with a Gemini and you will learn more than you expect. The perfect friends and partners for them are those who love adventure and never tire of trying something new. But stop growing and surely the Gemini air sign people will look for the somebody or something in his life.

LIBRA - Air Sign September 24 - October 23
The most balanced sign among the astrological signs, Librans bring harmony to all life on Earth. What they get, they give something in return. There are the most peaceful among all signs — a complete opposite of a Gemini. They are slow and sure. Their decisions are always right and perfect. The risk is less and they almost never make a mistake. Having a Libra in the family creates stability and balance at home.

AQUARIUS - Air Sign January 21 - February 19
Aquarius is the sign of change. They are often unpredictable in their thinking and decision-making. Their emotion is erratic at times. Being the most advanced thinker and having shallow emotional depths, they tend to have failed relationships. They want to be understood rather than the other way around. This sign makes for good teachers, lawyers, inventors, but never a sensual person. Their concern is very deep — advancement of human civilization and perfection of the human race. They can think of things that can only be seen in science fiction movies.
